The Evolution History of Bridge Bearings

Hebei Hengshui, as an industrial cluster for rubber and plastic products, primarily produces elastomeric bearings, spherical bearings, pot bearings, rubber supports, rubber waterstops, rubber inflatable cores, and other rubber products used in bridge engineering. Rubber bearings have been extensively applied in bridge projects both domestically and internationally, becoming a highly popular component in the construction of highways and urban bridges. Today, we will explore the origins of rubber bearings. It is understood that the earliest use of rubber bearings in China dates back to a highway bridge in Zhaoqing, Guangdong, which has a 25-year history of application.

To investigate the mechanical properties of laminated rubber bearings, such as compression, shear, and rolling, the China Academy of Railway Sciences conducted systematic experimental research on 160 rubber bearings of different specifications, shape coefficients, and rubber layer thicknesses between 1979 and 1981. Currently, laminated rubber bearings are mainly used in small to medium-span reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel railway bridges with spans ranging from 6 to 20 meters, supporting a maximum reaction force of approximately 2.2 MN.

With six years of experience in the rubber industry, Hebei Guchen Engineering Rubber Co., Ltd. has over a decade of expertise in producing rubber inflatable cores and rubber bearings. For manufacturers or construction users of rubber bearings, how long have you been familiar with or working with rubber bearings?
