Butyl Seal Tape – High Adhesion, Weatherproof & Flexible Sealing Strip
Our butyl seal tape (also known as butyl rubber tape, self-adhesive butyl tape, or butyl sealing strip) is a high-performance, non-hardening, and permanently flexible sealing solution. Made from premium butyl rubber, it provides excellent adhesion to metal, glass, plastic, concrete, wood, and many other surfaces. Ideal for waterproofing, sealing, and repair applications in construction, automotive, HVAC, marine, and electrical industries.
What is Butyl Seal Tape?
Butyl seal tape is a solvent-free, self-adhesive sealing tape based on butyl rubber. Unlike many sealants that dry out and crack over time, butyl tape remains flexible and non-hardening for years, accommodating joint movement and vibration. It forms a waterproof, air-tight, and dust-proof seal that resists UV radiation, ozone, and temperature extremes.
Our butyl seal tape is available in various widths (6 mm to 300 mm) and thicknesses (0.5 mm to 3 mm), with or without release paper. Custom sizes and colors (black, white, gray) are available upon request.

Key Features
- Self-adhesive – Peel and stick; no additional adhesive or heat required.
- Non-hardening & flexible – Remains elastic, accommodates expansion/contraction and vibration.
- Excellent waterproofing – Forms a permanent watertight seal.
- Wide temperature range – Service temperature from -40°C to +100°C.
- UV and ozone resistant – Suitable for outdoor applications without degradation.
- High adhesion – Bonds to metal, glass, plastic, wood, concrete, and many paints.
- Solvent-free – Environmentally friendly, no harmful VOCs.
- Easy to apply – Can be cut to length, hand-pressed or rolled into place.

Installation Guide
- Surface preparation: Clean and dry the surface. Remove dust, oil, grease, and loose particles. For best adhesion, use a solvent cleaner (isopropyl alcohol or acetone).
- Cutting: Cut the tape to the required length using scissors or a utility knife.
- Application: Peel off the release paper (if present). Apply the tape to the surface, pressing firmly along its length. For corners or curves, stretch slightly to conform.
- Pressure: Roll over the tape with a hand roller or apply firm pressure with a thumb or squeegee to ensure full contact.
- Overlap: For joints, overlap the tape by at least 25 mm and press firmly to create a continuous seal.
- Post-application: Avoid immediate water immersion for 1-2 hours to allow maximum adhesion development.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is butyl seal tape waterproof?
A: Yes, butyl seal tape is completely waterproof and forms a permanent watertight seal. It is widely used for sealing roofs, windows, pipes, and below-grade applications.
Q: Can butyl tape be used underwater?
A: It is water-resistant once applied, but for continuous underwater immersion (e.g., below waterline), we recommend a specialized marine butyl tape or additional mechanical fastening.
Q: How long does butyl seal tape last?
A: Our butyl tape has a service life of 10-20 years depending on environmental conditions. It remains flexible, does not crack, and maintains adhesion.
Q: Can I paint over butyl seal tape?
A: Most water-based and oil-based paints do not adhere well to butyl rubber. If painting is required, apply a compatible primer first or mask the tape area.
Q: Does butyl tape stick to itself?
A: Yes, butyl tape has good self-adhesion. Overlapped layers will bond together, making it suitable for splicing and wrapping.
Q: Is butyl tape removable?
A: Yes, butyl tape can be peeled off manually. Residue can be removed with mineral spirits or citrus-based cleaners. For permanent applications, removal may leave some residue.
Q: Do you offer custom butyl tape sizes and colors?
A: Yes, we produce custom widths, thicknesses, colors, and roll lengths. Minimum order quantity applies. Send your specification for a quotation.
